At Rhythm and Vines, we proudly embrace our role as kaitiaki (guardians) of the whenua (land) that hosts our event, taking this responsibility to heart. Protecting Papatūānuku (Mother Earth) is a shared commitment, and we encourage all festival-goers to adopt tikanga tiaki (sustainable practices), such as leaving no trace, cleaning up after themselves, and doing their utmost to minimise waste.
REUSABLE DRINKWARE
One of our most significant sustainability initiatives is our reusable cup system, aimed at reducing single-use plastics at the festival. By using reusable cups, we foster a circular economy and ensure that everything served at our bars is recyclable, multi-use, or compostable. This initiative helps eliminate the plastic waste typically generated by large-scale events, creating a meaningful impact on the environment.
BOOK-A-TENT
Camping is a big part of the Rhythm & Vines experience, and we’re making it more eco-friendly than ever. Our Book-A-Tent initiative allows festival-goers to hire a tent for the weekend instead of using disposable ones. With 1,500 tents available for about 3,500 attendees, this system reduces waste and makes camping more convenient. These tents are designed to be reused, meaning fewer abandoned tents and a cleaner festival site for everyone.
As we continue to grow our camping capacity, we’re grateful for everyone’s support in helping us reduce waste through initiatives like Book-A-Tent. Thanks to all our guests for choosing eco-friendly accommodation and making a positive impact on the environment!
COMPOSTABLE SERVEWARE
All onsite vendors use biodegradable and compostable serveware and cutlery. By choosing these eco-friendly alternatives, we help ensure that the waste produced during the festival breaks down naturally rather than contributing to long-term landfill issues. Unlike traditional plastic, compostable items decompose into the earth, enriching the soil and preventing harmful plastic pollution from harming the environment.
This shift significantly reduces our carbon footprint and helps close the loop on waste, ensuring that what we consume doesn’t leave a lasting, harmful impact on the planet.
WASTE TO WONDER
Where possible, we strive to use sustainable materials across our production, integrating recycled elements into the very fabric of the festival. From upcycled decor to eco-friendly builds, our goal is to craft a festival experience that not only looks fantastic but also minimises our environmental footprint.
This year, we’re transforming repurposed metal oil bins into striking art installations called Bloomin, offering industrial waste a second life as creative festival decor.
These bins, once destined for scrap, are now reimagined as bold, floral sculptures that tower over the entry—an impressive and immersive artwork for everyone to enjoy.
WATER REFILLS
We encourage all festival-goers to bring reusable water bottles and utilize the water stations scattered throughout the site. To further reduce plastic waste, all water sold onsite is now packaged in cans instead of plastic bottles, which have a lower carbon footprint and are easier to recycle.
SOME OF OUR STATS
Include information about specific statistics regarding the number of tents saved from landfills, the quantity of rubbish collected and sorted, and so on.
THANK YOU - YOUR EFFORTS MAKE A DIFFERENCE
We have immense respect for the taiao (natural environment) and are devoted to ensuring it remains beautiful and enjoyable for future generations. As your R&V experience comes to a close, we kindly request that you leave your campground and the festival site just as you found it—let's all do our part and avoid leaving any mess behind. By disposing of food packaging, drink containers, and other waste in the correct bins, you're helping to keep our environment safe and clean.
We’re truly grateful to every guest who joins us in caring for this remarkable land and in making R&V a festival that celebrates both music and sustainability. Together, we can keep our festival green, clean, and thriving for many years to come. Thank you for being part of this journey with us!
