+ RHYTHM AND VINES 2017
WHAT IS RHYTHM AND VINES?
Rhythm and Vines is a New Year's festival held each year from December 28-Jan 1 in Gisborne, East Coast of New Zealand. It is famous for being one of the first places in the world to welcome the first sunrise of the new year.
We are in the midst of planning our 15th episode, and we can tell you that Rhythm and Vines will again be the best damn New Year's experience possible. Our new festival layout sees our capacity strictly limited to 20,000 people, so we encourage you to purchase tickets as soon as possible to avoid missing out.
We again will be inviting over 100 international and local artists to perform on our 3 main stages and will be investing heavily into top line production. The festival experiences will be paramount so we will be continuing to broaden the festival scope with the likes of Activities, Comedy, Art installations and of course ensuring you are well fed with our range of delicious food vendors.
Awesome new camp bars have been introduced with drinks at affordable prices (beers starting from $3.50 during the day at our campsite bars). There is no BYO alcohol anymore in our Campgrounds, you will need to purchase alcohol onsite.
And of course, we will be up to our usual tricks with waterslides, NYE fireworks shows, and of course what will always be the main event, watching that first sunrise of 2018.
Please note: intoxicated persons may not be allowed into the venue. No refunds will be provided to persons disallowed entry due to intoxication. So please drink responsibly and look after your mates.

+ GENERAL, TREBLE + RHYTHM CAMPING QUESTIONS
Your General Camping, Treble Camping and Rhythm Camping ticket entitles you to camp onsite for up to 4 days from the December 28 to January 1. Refer to Premium Camping questions down the page.
WHAT IS GENERAL, TREBLE + RHYTHM CAMPING?
Camping in amongst the vines at Rhythm and Vines is an experience like no other. You will also have free access to the camp Garden Bars, Onsite Toilets and Shower Blocks and full use of facilities located across the site including food vendors, shaded seating areas, camp stores and a very short walk from all the stages.
WHERE IS GENERAL CAMPING LOCATED EXACTLY?
General Camping is located within our beautiful Waiohika Campgrounds on Waiohika Estate, conveniently on the doorstep of the festival itself. Situated within the vines (formerly Bass and Mid Camp) the Onsite Campground is a unique location to call home for the three days of R&V (four nights camping).
Treble Camping is located a slight distance from the festival site (5min walk max). Super close to the carpark and far enough to get a good nights sleep should you hit the hay early.
Rhythm Camping is located in the picturesque and historic Rhythm arena (where the main Rhythm Stage used to be from 2007-2014).
Both General and Treble are located within beautiful vines, with Rhythm Camping in an open grassy area. All campgrounds have similar facilities.
WHAT ARE THE OPENING TIMES FOR ONSITE CAMPING?
Onsite camping will open for check-in at midday on December 28 and you must vacate by 4pm on January 1. Please note organisers reserve the right to alter these times.
WHEN I ARRIVE, WHERE DO I GO?
Entry gate is Gate C. This will be clearly signposted. Park your car in the free car park and proceed to the Camping Check in Tent (signposted). This is where you will receive your wristband for Onsite Camping. You can then proceed to your campground. Please note organisers reserve the right to alter these details.
HOW FAR IS IT FROM THE CAR PARK TO THE CAMPSITE?
General Camping is truly right in amongst the vines on the festival site. Expect to walk to your campsite. Depending on where your site is this may be up to 700m.
Treble Camp is located opposite the car park. However, you will be required to check-in first, which would see you walk approximately 500m or so.
Rhythm Camping requires a further 1000m walk from festival checkin to your campsite.
Suggest you leave your bags/gear in your car, go check in then head back to your car to collect.
CAN I RETURN TO MY CAMPSITE DURING FESTIVAL HOURS?
You sure can. This is part of the attraction of the Onsite Camping experience. If you want to get away from it all for a break or a quick lie down, you’re only minutes away from your tent.
CAN I VISIT MY FRIENDS AT THE OTHER CAMPGROUNDS?
Yes. Once your tent is pitched, you can access all the campgrounds.
CAN I BRING FRIENDS BACK TO THE CAMPGROUNDS?
Access to the campgrounds will be restricted to campers only. You must have a valid R&V Onsite Camping wristband to gain access to these areas.
DO YOU ALLOW CAMPERVANS AT THE ONSITE CAMPGROUND?
No we don't. But there are accomodation facilities in Gisborne who do allow campervans. Try Waikanae Beach Holiday Park for options.
IS THERE A RESTRICTION ON TENT SIZES?
Small tents are better suited to the layout of the vines – single room, two-three person tents are ideal. There is very little space for larger family sized tents and this will be restricted for use by large groups. The maximum camp site size is mostly 7m x 6m because of the vines configuration and it is expected that a minimum of eight campers are accommodated in a space of this size. Three – four small tents fit into this space.
We do not permit metal head hammers for getting thse tent pegs in. Rubber, wood, or plastic hammers or mallets only.
CAN I BRING FOOD INTO THE CAMPSITES?
You can bring a reasonable quantity of snacks / food that doesn’t require cooking and unopened non-alcoholic drinking containers limited to six per person.
CAN I BRING ALCOHOL INTO THE CAMPSITES?
No. Our liquor licence does NOT allow BYO alcohol (bring your own alcohol). Like last year, our awesome Camp Bars will provide drinks at near wholesale prices, i.e. $3 for a beer. The camp bars will be open from 10am till 4pm (subject to final licence approval). The Festival bars located within the festival site open from 2pm.
CAN I TAKE ALCOHOL BACK TO MY TENT FROM THE CAMP BARS?
Due to our licencing, alcoholic beverages will be required to be consumed in the licenced bar areas and won't be able to be taken back to your tents.
IS THERE SECURITY WITHIN THE CAMPGROUNDS?
Yes. Security will be present at all times within the campgrounds & will be checking accreditation, performing bag searches and roaming the campgrounds.
ONE WAY DOOR POLICY
This year, due to the recent change in liquor licensing laws, there is a one way door policy between the R&V festival site and the R&V Onsite campgrounds. From 12am on the first two nights of the festival, and from 2:30am on NYE night, there will be no access back to the festival stages from the campgrounds. If you plan on watching the sunrise from the vines stage on the morning of the 1st, make sure you remember to grab some warm clothes before the 2:30am cut off.
WHAT TYPE OF BEDDING CAN I BRING?
Foam mattresses are not permitted as they pose a potential fire hazard. Air mattresses and camping rolls are best suited to the onsite camping environment.
